"In the communion of the Church, the People of God, the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and of Perpetual Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar is an Apostolic Religious Congregation of pontifical right, founded by Pierre Coudrin and Henriette Aymer de la Chevalerie."
(art. 1, SS.CC. Constitutions)

Pierre Coudrin (1768-1837) is a priest of the diocese of Poitiers, France. In 1792, during the Revolution, hidden in a grain loft, he receives the call to found a group of men and women who would spread the Gospel everywhere.
Henriette Aymer de la Chevalerie (1764-1834). After being imprisoned for having hidden a priest opposed to the principles of the French Revolution, in 1797she gathers around her women dedicated to reparation.
On Christmas day 1800, the founder and foundress commit themselves together to this work. Pope Pius VII approved the Congregation in 1817 by the declaration "Pastor aeternus".
