SS.CC. Dictionary

Constitutions: This is the book which contains the basic convictions and values by which we live our lives. It also includes practical rules which flow from these convictions.

Enlarged General Council (EGC): The EGC is a meeting of the mayor superiors with the General Government of the Congregation. The EGC must meet at least once between the General Chapters. Conforming to the Constitutions (art. 139) and the Statutes (88-91) the EGC promote the communion among the mayor communities and their co-responsibility with the General Government. To prepare the agenda of the next General Chapter is one of the responsibility.

French Revolucion: During the years 1789 to 1799 the political and religious system of France changes radically becoming more democratic. The King, whose power is believed to come from God rules by reason of heredity. He is replaced by a government which receives its power from the people by election. The bishops and parish priests are also elected by the people who are sovereign.

Pastor Aeternus: These are the first two words of a declaration of Pope Pius VII dated November 17, 1817. The document renews in a more solemn way the approval of the Congregation which "includes a number of faithful, clerics and secular priests as well as lay persons of both sexes."

Reparation: By adoration of the Blessed Sacrament we desire to give the honor to God that he deserves and thus repair the offenses of those who scoff at his authority.
Today we also understand reparation as a commitment to overcome injustice and build a world of solidarity and peace.

Restructuring: means the process for reforming the Congregation. The objective is to find new structures, means and forms for answering to the needs of today's church in the different cultures and societies. It is as looking for a renewed way for realising the mission by using the actual resources (spirituality, personalities, goods).

Spirituality: Spirituality is the spirit in which we live our lives. Spirituality is the particular emphasis we give the Gospel of Jesus which is the source of all Christian spirituality.

SS.CC.: is an abbreviation of the Latin "Sacrorum Cordium" which means "Sacred Hearts".
