The 102nd Assembly of the Union of Superiors General (USG) was held from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 November 2024. More than 120 Superiors General took part. It was also attended by the President of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) Sr. Mary Barron and the Prefect, Secretary, Undersecretary and Heads of Services of the Dicastery for Consecrated Life.
The theme of this Assembly was: How to be a synodal and missionary consecrated life? The reflection was animated by representatives of the USG and the UISG who participated in the Synod on Synodality.
We are entering into the implementation phase of the Synod. From its orientations we perceive a strong call from the Synod asking Religious Life to be faithful to the charisms we have received. They are for the life and mission in the Church. We also welcome the call to deepen our understanding of international communities as laboratories of evangelical fraternity and to promote lifestyles of sober beauty, close to the poor and respectful of the common home that welcomes us.
The first common celebration was led by superiors of communities in Lebanon, according to the Maronite rite. It was a moment of communion with the suffering people of Lebanon who struggle for peace. The new Executive Council of the USG was also elected for the next three years. It is a Council composed of 12 religious from the different forms of religious life and which organises the annual assemblies of the USG, promotes the relationship and joint initiatives with both the UISG and the Dicastery for Consecrated Life. Arturo Sosa SJ was elected President and Mauro Lepori, Cistercian, Vice-President. Alberto Toutin was re-elected as a member of the Executive Council.
