Fr. Angelo Marcandella sscc, celebrated today, October 6, his 95th birthday with the community of the General House on Via Rivarone. Normally, our brother visits our house two or three times a year and usually stays for about a week. The brothers of the community also visit him and spend Holy Week with him. Until recently, he was the parish priest of St. Anthony’s Parish in Castell’Arquato, in northern Italy. He has become a very significant figure in the area, having served as parish priest for more than 50 years. He continues to celebrate the Eucharist and other services entrusted to him by the new parish priest.
The Superior General asked him what the secret formula is to reach 95 years. Angelo replied with two things: “Do well what you do well,” and “Be happy seeing people happy.”
Last August, Angelo traveled to Spain to meet the relatives of the late Fr. Tomás Zapata sscc, who had worked with him in his parish before returning to Spain. Currently, the Congregation has two sscc brothers of Italian origin: Angelo himself and Fr. Damiano Tonegutti sscc, from the Iberian Province.
