The community of Espíritu Santo Parish in Diego de Almagro lived the opening of the Jubilee Year convoked by Pope Francis with great intensity, while also commemorating the 60th anniversary of its founding and the designation of its church as one of the four jubilee temples in the Diocese of Copiapó. Filled with color, joy, and grateful memory, the celebrations honored the journey of the Church through this land, shaped by mining labor and past tragedies like the devastating 2015 flood. Banners, garlands, and the colors of the Jubilee logo adorned the church as both religious and community events unfolded in a spirit of vibrant faith and renewed commitment.
Among the most meaningful moments were the tribute to over 60 laypeople and community groups who have shaped the life of the parish, the solemn declaration of the church as a jubilee temple by Bishop Ricardo Morales, and a heartfelt anniversary Eucharist. All of it conveyed a clear message: the Jubilee is a time of forgiveness, reconciliation, and active hope. In the face of today’s social and spiritual wounds — loneliness, poverty, violence — the community reaffirms its mission to be a light and an embrace, bearing witness to the merciful God who never abandons His people.
