A new book on Damien

The latest biography of St. Damien, the work of Ruben Boon, coordinator of the Damiaan Vandaag project, has just arrived at the General House. The title is Connections. A harmonius vision of Damien".

Drawing on new research and 'forgotten' Hawaiian voices, this biography takes a fresh, harmonius look at Damien and further explores the story of Damien which is also presented in the new Damien Museum.  It is impossible to tell Damian's story without giving Hawaiians a prominent role. Or, as Anwei Law, an expert on the history of leprosy in Hawaii, beautifully puts it: "Father Damien was very fond of the Hawaiians. By listening to them, we learn to understand Father Damien better. Their testimonies make Damien’s story more human, more meaningful, more complete and more accurate”. Listening to the Hawaiian testimonies, Damien suddenly becomes much more colourful. He fits into several boxes and transcends them at the same time.

Above all, Damien felt connected to everyone, transcending the boundaries of disease, culture and religion. In who he was and what he did, he gave shape to some fundamental Hawaiian values: ohana (family), malama (care and respect) and aloha (solidarity).

A little remark about the translation.
"Meerstemmig" isn't quite the same as "harmonious".
Suggestion: "A Polyphonic Look at Damian"...
