A new house of the Congregation in Norway (brothers)

Villa Maria, Stabekk

Since Autumn 2014, our Norwegian and Polish Brothers have a new residence in the diocese of Oslo. The Bishop asked  Fr. Arne Marco Kirsebom sscc to leave the parish of St. Olav and take care of the parishes of Asker and Baerum, in the outskirts of Oslo.

The building that formerly housed an old people’s home was not up to code for that purpose. It was converted into parish offices and residence for the SSCC community.  There are four brothers in the community: Arne Marco KIRSEBOM, local superior and parish priest in Asker and Baerum (German province), Wojciech KOTOWSKI, responsible for the Polish pastoral in Asker and Baerum, Kryzstof WANAT, responsible for the Polish pastoral in the parish John the Baptist (Oslo). Pawel WIECH is at present in Poland on a study break. The last three named belong to our Polish province.

Asker and Baerum on the western outskirts of Oslo are two big communities

with more than 170.000 inhabitants. The parish has 7.800 Catholics, about half of whom are Poles. There are two churches in the parish: St. Mary in Stabekk and Pax Christi in Eikeli. The second one is frequented mostly by English speaking Catholics.

From January 17 to 21, 2015, the German Provincial, Heinrich Josef Catrein, and his Polish colleague, Piotr Budrewicz, paid a short visit to the community of our brothers in Stabekk.

On February 1st, Bishop Bernt Eidsvig from Oslo solemnly blessed the buildings and celebrated the Eucharist with the community. Afterwards, he spent a good while at  the “Church Coffee,” an old Norwegian custom, sometimes called “the eighth sacrament.”
