After spending some time working in the archives of the Œuvres Pontificales Missionnaires (to find out about a collection relating to our Congregation) and at the Musée des Confluences in Lyon (where ethnographic objects donated to the OPM by Tepano Rouchouze, Raphaël Bonamie, Albert Montiton and Siméon Dumonteil are kept), the General Archivist, Éric Hernout, travelled to Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur in the Hautes-Alpes to visit the village where Brother Eugène Eyraud, sscc., was born.
It was an opportunity to meet the family, where the memory of Eugène lives on, just as it does on Easter Island, and to introduce this fine figure of our congregation to Bishop Xavier Malle of the diocese.
We entrust to Notre-Dame du Laus, the Marian shrine where Eugène Eyraud went to pray, a writing by members of the Société d'Etudes des Hautes-Alpes (Yves Chiaramella and Dominique Robert-Loubet), of a new biography regarding our brother who evangelised Rapa Nui between 1864 and 1868.
