On Sunday, 13 August 2017, the brothers of the German Province gathered in Kloster Arnstein to commemorate Fr. Walter Alphons Spix sscc who died during the time of the Nazis.
During the period of National Socialism (more commonly known as NAZI), the Arnstein Fathers, like all Christian orders, were also under special surveillance by the National Socialists.
For Fr. Alphons Spix sscc who was the Superior of the Arnstein monastery at the time, this had a fatal end. Due to his service to the Polish forced laborers, he was arrested by the Gestapo in 1941. At the end of January 1942 he was transferred to Dachau concentration camp.
As a result of the poor hygienic and medical conditions and the hard labor in the concentration camp, Fr. Spix fell ill. On August 9, 1942, he died in the hospital barrack of Dachau Concentration Camp at Darmkatarrh.
