Assembly of SSCC West Region (USA)

The triennial SSCC West Region Assembly followed the message from the General Chapter in Rome of welcoming change. A new superior (president) was elected: Holy Name of Mary pastor, Fr. Chris Santangelo sscc. Fr. Rich Danyluk was chosen to be the vicar, and newly ordained deacon Juan Carlos Martinez became the 2nd councillor.

Sr. Brid Long, Sisters of St. Louis, the facilitator, commented that the group was growing in closeness and trust. We had good, heartfelt sharing, including vocation stories, and others from the illustrious legacy of the SSCC in California.

We had small group brainstorming and discussion on Charism and Mission, Community and Ministry, Formation, and (Acc) Inculturation.

Fr. Pat Crowley sscc led us with very moving morning prayers. Fr. Mike Barry sscc inspired us with the story of the founding of Mary’s Mercy Center. He said wrapping the projects for the poor in the mantle of Mary always brought bounteous graces from the Lord.

Provincial Lane Akiona sscc remarks: “I send my greetings from all the brothers here in Fiji -professed brothers (priests & students); pre-novices; aspirants; family and friends of brothers to be professed. Fruitful blessings to the brothers of the West Region throughout this New Year.”

Our Assembly was cut short at the beautiful Passionist Retreat Mater Dolorosa because of mandatory evacuation due to the nearby Eaton Canyon fire. Sadly, the retreat house received extensive damage from the fire. Thanks be to God, all the Passionists, staff, and retreatants got out safely and secured places to stay. We pray for our Passionist friends and their grace-filled ministry.
