Brothers re-connecting in Hawaii

Our brothers serving in the United States province of the SSCC who have received their final vows in the last nine years and attended the Pacific Regional Seminary in Fiji (with the exception of two brothers engaged in ministry, Esitio Niuliki and Juan Carlos Martinez) gathered at St. Anthony’s Retreat Center in Kahili, Oahu, HI, August 25-30. The peaceful and beautiful retreat house, which is run by our sisters, was a perfect place for our time of re-connecting, sharing, and deepening of our relationships with one another and with our loving Lord.

The retreat was organized by Fr. Eric Cruz sscc and encouraged and supported by our lead formator in Fiji, Fr. Johnathan Hurrell sscc.

The first night Damien Hall hosted our Hawaiian brothers, including Fr. Andy Healy sscc, who left the Japan-Philippine province to move into St. Patrick Monastery in Kaimuki, who was accompanied by his provincial Fr. Michiaki Chiahara sscc.

Fr. Rich Danyluk sscc was our retreat master who encouraged us to share our communion as brothers and reminded us of our call as brothers of the Sacred Hearts.

Fr. Clyde Guerrero sscc, who was pre-novice master in Tonga, shared with us the dynamics of healing: faith, love, forgiveness and thanksgiving.

Fr. Pat Crowley sscc led us in a powerful session on the healing of memories.

We were graced with the company of our good friends Margaret and Soane Uiagalelei, and blessed to see our SSCC sisters at the St. Augustine gala Wednesday night. We had a wonderful fraternal time of Talanoa/ “talking story”.

We are grateful for all our formators (Fr. Pat Fanning sscc, Fr. Marisi Palepale sscc, Fr. Clyde Guerreiro sscc, Fr. Rich Danyluk sscc, Fr. Rich McNally sscc, Fr. Johnathan Hurrell sscc, Fr. Stan Kolasa sscc, Br. Richard Kupo sscc, our SSCC sisters, our parents and families, and all our benefactors. We are grateful to God and for the foresight, trust and effort of our leaders who have acted on the call of our first chapter as a new US Province for vocations. Thanks to the Lord of the harvest!

May the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary bless you all.
