Canonical Visit to Bagong Silang, Philippines (Sisters)

The Philippines has two communities, the international novitiate in Quezon City and the insertion community in Bagong Silang. Patricia and Aurora visited the two communities from the 24th of October to the 2nd of November.

The "Betania" community in Bagong Silang is composed of 3 sisters: Ellen Buyuccan, Patricia Nurimarna and Paula Dwi Handayani. It is a community in a very poor neighbourhood, and they are completely dedicated to the mission, both in the St. Damien's Centre and in the Aymer Centre for the elderly. It is also the apostolic community of reference for formation.

Patricia and Aurora were able to see the work that the sisters are doing: Care for children and pregnant women (PBB), a scholarship programme, a feeding programme (scholarship holders, malnourished and elderly), a milk distribution programme for severely malnourished children, a medical mission, Glass of Milk (Baso ng Gatas), physiotherapy, medical assistance to destitute families, school support, care for the elderly... They enjoyed a simple but pleasant meal with the elderly and the volunteers.

They shared with the brothers the prayer for peace that the Pope called for on 27 October, followed by a delicious meal and pleasant conversation.
