Canonical Visit to the Territory of Spain (Sisters)

The canonical visit to the Spanish Territory began on the 29th of September in Torrelavega. Patricia, Goyi and Aurora visited the community, where 24 sisters reside. It was a time of deep sharing about the life and mission of the community. We appreciated the joyful and welcoming atmosphere. We enjoyed the moments of meeting, in the dining room, the walks, the community games in the afternoon, as well as the moments of prayer, Eucharist, personal encounters, meetings... all marked by a very rich sharing.

There was time to visit the brothers and to share with the school management team, as well as to visit the neighbourhood and chat with some people. The sisters were happy because it was a leisurely visit, with time to accompany the sisters in their normal activities. On the last day the Bishop visited us, thanking the sisters for their presence and the work they do. The visit ended with a "festive evening" remembering and singing songs of their time. There was also time to visit the shrine of the Virgen del Mar, patron saint of Santander.

Then we visited the communities of Salamanca: Pizarrales and Padre Damián. There was a deep and fraternal sharing with the sisters. We noted the networking with the church and various organizations, as well as the commitment to the most vulnerable, having the opportunity to visit the Caritas projects where the sisters work and collaborate: Baraka, Espacio Abierto, Padre Damián. We visited the parish of Pizarrales and had a meeting with the director of Caritas. It was very interesting to hear about the Molokai project and to participate in the prayer vigil of the cross prepared by this group for the young people of the WYD in Salamanca.

We ended the visit with a meeting of the two communities and a Eucharist presided by Jorge, the parish priest of Pizarrales. The following day, the two communities accompanied the General Government to visit Alba de Tormes where the tomb of St. Teresa of Avila is located. It was a religious and recreational end to the visit, remembering the life of the Saint and savouring a delicious meal, prepared by our sisters, in the park by the river Tormes.
