Caring for immigrants in Concepción (Chile)

Considering the serious health situation that is affecting Chile due to the Covid-19 virus, the parish of Santa Madre de Dios de Pedro del Río, in the city of Concepción, served by the religious of the Sacred Hearts, has organized itself to help the most needy.

The parish community, thanks to last year's Lenten collection, together with the group ASI (Friends in Solidarity with Immigrants) managed to put together 43 family baskets of provisions for the immigrant brothers and sisters, which have benefited a total of 115 people so far.

At the same time, the Archbishop of Concepción made a monetary contribution and together with anonymous contributions from the community, the parish has managed to give out snacks every Saturday, which means a total of 70 snacks every week to this day. All the logistics are organized by the community itself, supported by the Pastoral Ayuda Fraterna (Fraternal Help) and the ASI group.

This very significant activity has been called: "Bread tastes good when it is shared", a text inspired by the writings of our brother Esteban Gumucio sscc.

This initiative is a concrete response to the crisis and a new opportunity to serve and act in solidarity with those who suffer day by day and are excluded from the city.
