Celebration of the Martyrs of Picpus (Rome)

On Friday evening, 26th May, in our Generalate in Via Rivarone there was a gathering of the community along with our SSCC sisters in Rome, the Josephite religious who serve the parish of San Giuseppe all'Aurelio, in which our house is located, and our neighbours, the brothers of Christian Instruction of Ploërmel. The assembly was to give gave thanks to God for the beatification of the Martyrs of Picpus and to celebrate in a simple and familiar way the first liturgical feast in their honour.

The Eucharist was presided over by Andrzej Lukawski, Postulator General.  In his homily he emphasised the following: "We do not know when or how our life will end, but as we receive these new and wonderful examples of faithfulness to Christ and to the Church until the very end, let us praise God and ask him that, following the example of the Blessed Martyrs Henri, Ladislas, Pollycarpe, Marcellin and Frézal, we may not allow ourselves to be overcome by the evil of the world, but may always overcome it with good."

The Eucharistic celebration was followed by an aperitif and dinner. Andrzej gave a gift to the guests, a souvenir of our four new Blesseds. It was a joyful and satisfying end to the day, a day in which we gratefully remembered our blessed brothers and sisters.
