Historical events are known to inspire great artistic expressions. Paris has witnessed such a spectacle these past two weekends (8-9 & 15-16 Oct) in a theatrical production, "Chasseur d'Ames," (Soul Hunter) at Théatre St. Léon, organized by the Religious of St. Vincent de Paul.
The theatre piece is based on the life and death of Fr. Henri Planchat sv, who is to be beatified in April 2023 together with 4 SSCC priests, all of them martyred during the Paris Commune.
With minimalist stage setting, the audience is drawn into the storyline and three versatile actors bring to life some touching scenes of the priest's pastoral ministries, the tension brought about by his imprisonment, and the sublime final moment of his life when he prayed, "I fear nothing, Lord, as you are with me."
Both the adult and children choirs of Notre Dame de la Salette parish infused an emotional dimension to this excellent performance. Bravo!
