Christmas Eve in Rome

The two SSCC communities of brothers and sisters in Rome gathered at the General House of the brothers to celebrate the Christmas Mass.

The Eucharist was presided over by Poldo Antolín sscc, who in his homily, quoted a well-known novel in which a drunkard in a tavern becomes aware of having ruined his family and ends up confessing: "Every one must have a place to go to. Because in the end there will be times when it is absolutely necessary to know where one’s home is." Poldo went on to explain that "for us, men and women religious of the SSCC, the Heart of Jesus is that place, as indeed are the brothers and sisters themselves”.

Before the offertory, all renewed their vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. After the Eucharist, supper was served and, at the end, traditional Christmas carols were sung in various languages.
