On April 19, 2015 at 4 pm, new sscc lay members made their commitments at the Father Damien Center. The Mass was celebrated by our brother Jean-Blaise Mwanda, provincial of the brothers.
During the Eucharist, Jean-Blaise invited us to promote fellowship following the example of Jesus, as he wanted when he appeared to the apostles. Jesus wanted to confirm their presence eating with his disciples, when they were still doubting. He asked: "Have you anything to eat?". Then he ate before them.
The celebrant also highlighted the "image" of eating together as a family or community. Communion strengthens the relationship with Christ and among people. That should be the mission of every disciple of Christ in this world that has been marked by individualism. Jean-Blaise encouraged the laity to be of service to the local Church, and also to be present in places that cannot be reached by the SSCC brothers and sisters.
After the homily, the coordinator of the laity invited to the "new" members to make their first commitments. Then, the rest of the members renewed their promises too. After Mass a fraternal meal was offered. The afternoon and ended with celebration and joy.
