Date and place of the Beatification of the Martyrs of the twentieth century in Spain

The Spanish Episcopal Conference, in its plenary meeting, decided that the beatification ceremony for the 20th century Spanish Martyrs, planned for October 27th will be celebrated in Tarragona. The note adds the quote: “The site chosen has a great history of Christian faith and martyrdom, like the Hispanic protomartyrs: Fructoso, Bishop of Tarragona and his two deacons Augurio and Eulogio. Moreover, on this occasion 147 of the martyrs to be beatified are from Tarragona. These include Manuel Borrás, who was the auxiliary bishop of the diocese, and 66 diocesan priests.”

As everyone knows our SS.CC. brothers Teófilo Fernández de Legaria, Mario Ros, Isidro Íñiguez de Ciriano, Eladio López and Gonzalo Barrón are among those who will be beatified.

Soon more details about the beatification ceremony will be given. The Office for the Causes of Saints of the Spanish Episcopal Conference and the host diocese are in charge of organizing the event. May our 20th century Spanish Martyrs encourage us, as our recent General Chapter asks us, to be “witnesses of the faith at a time when many people, including ourselves struggle to believe!”
