On 25 January 2015 a celebration of Diaconal Ordination of our brother Landry Ibil Ikwel took place in the Parish of St Felicity and Perpetua at Manga-Villamassane, in Beira - Mozambique. The Eucharistic celebration was presided by Dom Claudio della Zuana, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Beira. Also present was Dom Jaime Pedro Gonçalves, Archbishop Emeritus of Beira, all sscc brothers in Beira and Chimoio, some priests concelebrating, the religious brothers and sisters and the parish community.
In his homily, Dom Claudio took the Gospel of the 3rd Sunday of Ordinary Time and spoke about Vocation. Jesus was active. He picked up his first disciples who were doing activities. Jesus calls us each of us in our daily activities to come and follow him. We must be very attentive to listen to his voice. Today, in a special way, he calls brother Landry. What is this call about?
It is a call to "diakonia" which means service. The bishop compared this service to that of the cook or laborer. Being in the service of the altar of the Word of God, the Eucharist and charity. Landry is doing service of the Church in the Parish Community of Villamassane. Dom Claudio then continued with the imposition of hands and prayer.
After the final prayer, there was a traditional ceremony directed by the Legion of Mary. Landry was given a mat to rest, a hat for the sun, and a gourd for fresh water. Because it will be a very hard work in the parish Saint Felicity and Perpetua.
Immediately after Mass, we shared a meal together at Collège of Jean XXIII of the de la Salle brothers.
