A small group of secondary school students from Colegio San Damián SSCC in Valparaíso (Chile), together with some teachers, took part in one of the most important religious festivities in southern Chile.
On August 30th, on the Island of Caguach, located in the territory of Chiloé some 1,400 kilometers from the port city, the feast of the Nazarene of Caguach is celebrated — a religious festivity that gathers thousands of people from different islands of the archipelago and from the rest of the country to express their devotion and faith to the Christ figure dressed in purple (lilac), adorned every year by the local faithful themselves.

These young people took part in the festivity with great admiration for the experience of witnessing this southern devotion firsthand in Chile. The day was cold and rainy, as is typical of the region, but it was carried by a grateful heart and a sense of newness within the fraternal warmth of building community-Church on that small island at the end of the world.

In addition, the students had two other major activities in the area: getting to know and doing artistic work during visits to some heritage churches, observing and analyzing their architecture, imagery, and significance for the local community. There was also the experience at Chiloé's Chiloé National Park (Parque Nacional Caucao), where they came to know and explore the full biodiversity of the area's fauna and flora.
