Extraordinary Chapter of Chile-Argentina

The Extraordinary Chapter of the Province of Chile-Argentina, with its deliberative sessions, took place from 1 - 5 August with hybrid participation of religious, mostly in person but some had to take part by videoconference due to convalescence from Covid. Twenty-three brothers of the province, plus two religious of the sisters' branch, the three laywomen elected to the central commission, and the two general councilors, Jean Blaise Mwanda and Fernando Cordero, on canonical visitation, all participated in this provincial event.

The capitulants dealt with the themes that had previously been defined,  namely: ways of living fraternity, the commitments of management, models of cultural management, and lay protagonism and synodality.  Other themes were also considered: the internal progress regarding the synod of education. These topics had been  prepared through internal discussions during the months following April.

The three lay women who collaborate with the Congregation in different areas and levels participated for the first time. They are Javiera Albornoz, journalist, Bernardita Zambrano, theologian, and Claudia Metz, biochemist and coordinator of the Secular Branch. They were chosen from among 13 names proposed. The religious sisters who participated were Mónica Jiménez Gómez, zonal superior of Latin America, and Irene Arias Vielma, territorial coordinator in Chile.
