Faith and fervor: Fiji community celebrates Easter

The Catholic community of St. Joseph the Worker in Tamavua, Fiji, experienced a deeply spiritual and vibrant Holy Week, culminating in a joyful Easter celebration. From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, hundreds of faithful took part in Masses, processions, and liturgical events, led by priests from the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts. One of the most touching moments was Holy Thursday, where the washing of feet was performed in various parts of the church, symbolizing how Jesus reached out in humility to the marginalized.

On Good Friday, the parish youth organized a four-hour Stations of the Cross walk from Colo-i-Suva to the church, followed by a solemn veneration of the cross that drew an even larger crowd. During the Easter Vigil on Saturday, eight catechumens were baptized and confirmed, and the church overflowed with people—even extending to the roadside—showing the community’s strong devotion. The celebrations concluded with a hopeful message: to live the synodal spirit, embracing welcome and the love of Christ throughout the year.
