The Father Esteban Commission met recently in the parish of San Pedro and San Pablo, in Santiago, Chile, in order to evaluate the work done in 2019 and to plan for 2020, which will bring its own challenges.
The great milestone of 2019 was the opening of the investigation into a possible miracle attributed to the intercession of Esteban. A tribunal was formed in the Diocese of Iquique, presided over by its Bishop. Along with this, visits were made to the ss.cc. works, parishes and schools where people met and discussed the current situation of the cause of Father Esteban and challenges ahead.
For this year it is hoped that the miracle that is being investigated in Iquique will be approved and that this will lead to Esteban’s beatification, in harmony with the call for social justice, humanization, dignity and the end of the abuses in Chile that has been taking place. "We see 2020 being a year in which social justice, humanization and dignity will be the main challenges in Chile, and therefore we want Esteban's cause of canonization, to permeate everything we do," said Rafael Silva, Coordinator of the Commission.
