On Sunday evening, June 16, 2024, the elect delegates and ex-officio members of the US Province’s 5th Provincial Chapter gathered at St. Anthony Retreat Center in Honolulu, Hawaii for the opening of the Chapter. After evening prayer, the chapter was opened and the participants by the Provincial Superior, Fr. Lane Akiona sscc.
On Monday, June 17, the chapter had a half-day retreat. Fr. Pat Crowley sscc gave a reflection titled “Enlarge Your Tent”. Quiet reflection, and small group and large group sharing followed. The afternoon began with the General Government Report given by Fr. Alberto Toutin sscc. Then there was a brief review of the various reports to the chapter which had been presented to the Province via Zoom over the past five months.
On Tuesday, June 18, the chapter spent the day discussing and amending the various proposals presented to the chapter. These proposals were synthesized from the priorities which had been presented by each area community in their meetings over the past year.
On Wednesday, June 19, the elections were held for the new Provincial government. Fr. Lane Akiona, sscc was reelected as Provincial Superior, Fr. Stephen Banjare, sscc was elected Vicar Provincial. The first, second and third councilors are: Fr. Eric Cruz, sscc, Fr. Maik Kamauoha sscc and Fr. Bob Charlton sscc. After the elections Fr. Alberto offered some reflections on the upcoming General Chapter this September.
The chapter will continue its deliberation through Thursday, June 20 and will conclude on Friday June 21.
