Community life and a spirit of fraternity recently marked several meaningful gatherings in Hawaii, where SSCC brothers and sisters and lay people shared moments of closeness and celebration.
At St. Patrick’s Monastery in Kaimuki, a fraternal meal took place with the participation of, among others, Father Bill Petrie, accompanied by his caregiver and his sister Jan Petrie, along with Fathers Bert Lock, Jim McDonough and Andy Healy, and Brother Manny D. The gathering was a simple yet valuable opportunity to share a meal and strengthen community bonds.

Meanwhile, Father Brian walked down the pali to visit and spend a few days with Father Pat Killilea at the historic settlement of Kalaupapa, a place rich in memory and meaning.
In Kalaupapa, settlement workers and their families took part in a Christmas celebration that included a Christmas sweater contest and prizes for the best house decorations. Two of the settlement’s patients, Meli and John, both over one hundred years old, were present. The third patient, Winnie, currently resides in a care home.

The day concluded with a blessing before the meal, given by Father Pat Killilea, adding a spiritual note to a day marked by fellowship, gratitude and shared hope.
