From Berlin (Germany)

L-R:  Manfred Kollig, Harald Adler, Dionisius Karitas Ribu Watun, Derek Laverty, Patrisius Breket Mudaj & Ludger Widmaier after English Mass in the Church of St. Bernard.

In the afternoon, on 2 October, Derek Laverty, vicar general,  made his way by train from Berlin to Werne to join in the centenary celebrations that are planned on 3 October to mark 100 years of the establishment of Germany as a Province of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts.

As well as experiencing the typical SSCC hospitality of our brothers, the few days here in Berlin have given Derek a wonderful opportunity to see the nascent ‘Berlin Project’ close up. The project, made possible through collaboration between 2 brothers from Germany, 2 from Indonesia and 2 from Africa (the latter are on their way) involves  working alongside the Camillian fathers in the pastoral care of the parishes of the Sacred Heart, St. Camille, and St. Thomas Aquinas which form the pastoral area of Charlottenburg, in the Archdiocese of Berlin where Manfred Kollig, SSCC is Vicar General.

The brothers are also continuing a ministry to the French and English speaking Catholic communities in the diocese.   The French speakers come together in the Church of St. Thomas,  whereas the English speaking communities are spread over six churches. In addition to all of this the SSCC community is also responsibility for youth pastoral.  This project is full of possibilities and challenges. Pray for all the brothers who are involved.
