In a moving ceremony at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, brother Gaberieli Saunivalu sscc was ordained a deacon. The ordination was presided over by Bishop Mario A. Avilés C.O., Auxiliary Bishop of Brownsville, on Saturday, June 28.
The ordination Mass began with a warm welcome, coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. During his homily, Bishop Avilés emphasized the deep significance of Brother Gaberieli’s commitment, drawing parallels with the total surrender of the Blessed Virgin Mary to God’s will. He described the three essential promises of a deacon: celibacy, prayer, and obedience, highlighting his role as a deacon whose mission is to love and selflessly serve Christ and His people.
After Communion, there was a prayer of thanksgiving for the newly ordained deacon. Bishop Mario expressed his gratitude to the Fathers of the Sacred Hearts for their devoted service within the diocese. Brother Gaberieli then shared his heartfelt thanks to God, his family, his community, and the parishes he serves.
