Fr. Andrzej Lukawski sscc presented the figure of Fr. Mateo Crawley-Boevey as one of the great witnesses of the charism of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts (SSCC). He highlighted his role as a universal promoter of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and his fidelity to the spirit of the Congregation. He also informed the participants about the beginning of preparations for his beatification process, within the framework of the 150th anniversary of his birth.
In his spirituality, Fr. Mateo lived deeply the consecration to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, the foundation of the SSCC charism. He was a man of the Eucharist and reparative adoration, of profound Marian devotion and deep obedience to the Pope, whom he regarded as the visible representative of Christ. His life was also inspired by the saints, especially St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
As for his mission, he dedicated himself entirely to proclaiming the love of God manifested in the Heart of Christ. He founded the Work of the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Families (1907), which sought the Christian renewal of home and society through the recognition of Christ’s kingship. The popes supported this initiative, acknowledging its spiritual and apostolic value.
Fr. Andrzej concluded that all of Fr. Mateo’s activity was a faithful response to the Holy Spirit and to the charism of his Congregation, aimed at renewing the Church and families through the reparative love of the Heart of Jesus.
