On the occasion of his recent re-election as Provincial Superior of Iberia, our Brother Aurelio Cayón sscc was interviewed by , José Beltrán, director of the magazine Vida Nueva. The headline of the article is: "It's time to get stuck into life".
One of the questions put to Aurelio was "What would Saint Damien of Molokai have to say to Aurelio Cayon today?
The response of the Provincial of the Iberian Peninsula is as follows:
"I'm sure he'd give me a slap on the wrist... Because we can never live up to him as a missionary. When, at this moment in history and as brothers in the Congregation we contemplate his dedication he is both an encouragement and a challenge for us. In a special way he invites me to deepen my relationship with the Lord through prayer and the Eucharist. Damien once wrote: ‘Without the Blessed Sacrament a situation like mine would be untenable.’ His insight and experience leads me to ask myself in what ways can I be of service to the brother(s); how might the brother(s) need me. Damien lived for others, he worked hard to know what those around him needed and how to respond".
