Journey toward independence (Indonesia)

On March 21 2023, the members of the secular Branch, (Bandung Sector) who now consist of two communities met with Sr. Romeka Situmorang (Coordinator of the Territory for the sisters) and Fr. Pankras, (provincial superior of the Indonesian Province). Presenting the first slide with the logo of 100 years Brothers presence and 25 years presence of Sisters in Indonesia, the Secular Branch was encouraged to move forward, working for their independence according to the Constitution of Brothers and sisters and the Statutes of the Secular Branch (9, 23) which covers structure.

In this meeting, Fr. Pankras presented the structure of the three branches from our origin to the present Statutes of the Secular Branch. Since the group in Bandung sector continues to grow in number, there is a need to settle the structure and establish how the sector might serve.  At this present moment, there are forty candidates who are interested in joining the secular branch.  The sector coordinator, the leaders of two communities in Bandung, together with National coordinator, Mam Yulia Basuki, were asked by the brothers and sisters in 2017 to participate in the International Meeting of the Secular Branch along with a member of the Formation commission of the Secular Branch.  With the accompaniment of the two mentors in Bandung, Sr. Christina Lipat and Fr. Antok Budiyanto, those new elected selected coordinators with the community leader, and together with National coordinator are working to establish criteria for selection and the process of acceptance.  Let us hope and pray that with the encouragement of Fr. Superior General, Fr. Alberto Toutin and his council, the secular branch in Indonesia will continue to grow in number and quality so that they can organize the third branch accordingly.
