The annual meeting of Sacred Hearts superiors (brothers and sisters) of the Iberian Peninsula took place at the house of our sisters, San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid), February 17-19. Given the occasion of the bicentennial of the pontifical approval of the Congregation, the Superior General, Javier Álvarez-Ossorio, was present and animated the meeting putting it in the context of the bicentennial and the role of the superiors to encourage brothers and sisters to "savor God in the journey of life" (Good Father).
Javier developed the elements of the charism that constitute the soul of the Congregation: redeeming love and consecration to the Sacred Hearts, apostolic zeal, reparation, the spirit of co-suffering, humility and simplicity. Participants likewise expressed their experience of the vows, and shared what most concerns and encourages them in the sscc spiritual itinerary. Finally Javier offered some brushstrokes to "savor God" in experiments in mercy: promoting merciful action, the love of the poor, an initial formation that is a spiritual accompaniment in action and a light hearted community, rowing together in the one canoe.
During these days there has been time for get-together, prayer, adoration and Eucharist, as well as for the shared table. We thank the sisters of San Lorenzo for their hospitality and extra attentiveness.
