Meeting of Superiors (Iberian Province)

On 19 February the local superiors of the communities of the Iberian Province met by videoconference.  Normally these meetings, which are held every year around this time, are an opportunity for ongoing formation for superiors and are shared with the superiors of the sisters of the Territory of Spain.  This year, due to the pandemic, the sisters were not able to meet, so it was only the brothers who took part.  The topic for the first part of the meeting was “accompaniment of our older brothers”.  The Ongoing Formation coordinator, Raúl Valverde, had sent us, prior to the meeting, an article by Mari Luz Galván, rscj entitled "The elderly in Religious Life: where do they come from and where are they?" There were also some questions to work on for sharing in our reflections on this topic.  The shared reflection was both intense and deep, and helped us as animators of our communities with responsibility for the care of our older brothers.  We are conscious of the richness that their presence among us means, as well as the challenges and demands that their accompaniment poses.  The second session gave us an opportunity to share information and the experiences we are undergoing in our communities in the pandemic. Also, each superior was able to share on how he is living and facing these times in his respective community.  This was an important time in which we were able to experience mutual support between all of us as we live through these difficult moments.
