The Executive Committee of the Latin American Conference (CIAL) has met from May 30 to June 1 in Macul (Santiago, Chile). The meeting was attended by Raúl Pariamachi (Andina, CIAL coordinator), Pedro Díaz (Mexico), René Cabezón (Chile), Sérgio Stein (Brazil), Ángel Armoa (Paraguay), Enrique Ramírez (coordinator of the initial formation of the CIAL), Guillermo Rosas (coordinator of ongoing formation) and Javier Álvarez-Ossorio (Superior General).
The first day was dedicated to a meeting with the formators of the two interprovincial houses of formation of the Conference: Paulino Colque and Ricardo Gomes (formators of the common novitiate, which is in Peru, with 2 novices at this time) and Sandro Mancilla and Carlos Mendoza (formators of the interprovincial house of the professed, who is in Chile, with 4 temporary professed).
In the dialogue with the formators the good progress of the two houses was discussed. Some challenges were also discussed, such as: the need to better understand the "millennial" culture of young people, work to give continuity to the whole formation process (which takes place in several houses and in different countries), the criteria for the use of the psychology and legal procedures that may require, the use of communication devices, etc. There was also a report about the new house of the professed in Brazil, started this year, which has two formators and five temporary professed.
Formators and Executve Committee
The other two days, the Executive Committee spent time listening how the the superiors are ding in their respective communities, to schedule the meetings of initial formation and ongoing formation planned for the next two years, and to review the way to distribute the costs of the various joint activities.
Javier explained the process of preparation for the General Chapter and discussed what should be prepared by the Conference.
