On Tuesday, October 18, the feast day of Saint Luke the Evangelist, a meeting of sisters and brothers who are preparing for perpetual vows. The meeting took place by videoconference. The meeting was prepared by the general commissions of initial formation of sisters and brothers. It was animated by our Superior Generals, Patricia Villaroel and Alberto Toutin. The theme was: "The Congregation today: vision and challenges".
In their interventions, Patricia, speaking from Lima (Peru), commented on the current context of the world, the Church and the Congregation. We live in a world of crisis, darkness and uncertainty: threat of nuclear bombing, inequality, contamination of the planet...The Church is going through a difficult time, Christians are called to be mystics: to take care of the inner self (39th General Chapter of the brothers), discernment and continuous conversion (37th General Chapter of the sisters). We must invent and create something new, following the example of our founders. Synodality is a great challenge for the Church and the Congregation today. Our family spirit is the way to express universal fraternity.
Alberto, (speaking from Los Angeles (USA)) described the celebration of perpetual vows as a double belonging: to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and to the brothers and sisters. The martyrs of the Paris Commune, who will be beatified next year, were aware not only of the historical moment of what was taking place, and especially as a consequence of their perpetual vows
This was followed by an interesting dialogue between the participating sisters and brothers and the Superior Generals. The meeting was attended by 9 brothers and 7 sisters who are preparing for perpetual vows, the team of formators and translation services in three languages: English, Spanish and French.
