From 15 to 19 July 2025, the National Biblical Conference was held at the Catholic Center of Bali, bringing together the coordinators of the Biblical Commission from all dioceses that are part of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference.
Under the theme "Proclaiming Jesus in the Asian-Indonesian Context", the event offered five days of reflection, formation, and dialogue. Various speakers invited participants to read and meditate on the Gospel from within local cultures and languages, thus promoting a deeper and more incarnate understanding of the Christian message.
Monsignor Silvester San Pr, bishop of Bali, accompanied the entire conference from its opening to its closing. For his part, Monsignor Budi Kleden SVD encouraged those present to proclaim the Gospel in spirit of inculturation and dialogue, valuing the ancestral wisdom of the people.
Among the participants, the presence of Fr. Paulus Halek Bere sscc, coordinator of the Biblical Commission of the Archdiocese of Medan, stood out. Attending the National Biblical Conference for the first time, he shared: “This meeting has been a very enriching experience for me.” He also stated: “It not only helped me read and reflect on the biblical texts in a new way, but also encouraged me to recognize and appreciate the texts and stories that convey local wisdom. I believe this approach can help people understand the message of the Gospel more easily.”
