40 years after the first summer assembly in the coastal town of Punta de Tralca, the SSCC brothers of the Chilean province have met again in this emblematic place, between 23 and 28 January 2017. A group of 40 brothers of very different generations came together to pray, reflect and share in a climate of fraternity qualified as optimal by all participants.
The focus of the reflection was centered on the “pastoral conversion” of the apostolic tasks, supported by the conclusions of the meeting of Latin American bishops in Aparecida and the exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (EG) of Pope Francis. To deepen the subject, several contributions were received: on the situation of the poverty in Chile (lawyer Leonardo Moreno); on pastoral conversion and reparation (Alberto Toutin sscc); and on the concept of pastoral conversion in the text of EG (Sergio Silva sscc). The assembly reacted in group work and in a final synthesis.
An important moment was occupied by the project of the nascent community Atacama, new foundation of the Chilean province in the periphery of the north of the country. As usual on these occasions, the brothers received reports from the various commissions that animate the life of the province; and on Friday the 27th, the brothers who had significant anniversaries of religious profession and priestly ministry were celebrated. The following day, the talk of the provincial superior Alex Vigueras sscc took place, who referred to issues such as the Atacama community, religious availability, the capacity to face difficulties, the strengthening of the community life, new lay ministries in pastoral care and the necessary closeness to the life of the people.
