On 30 June more than 15,000 pilgrims participated in the main event of the jubilee year of the Diocese of Getafe to mark the occasion of the centenary of the Consecration of Spain to the Heart of Jesus during the reign of King Alfonso XIII. At the open-air Eucharist that was celebrated on the slopes of the famous hill of Los Angeles and presided over by the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, Carlos Osoro, those who attended renewed their consecration through prayers that had been updated since they were first uttered a century ago. It is good to recall that one hundred years ago Father Mateo Crawley-Boevey sscc, preached the Triduum prior to the consecration and was one of the great promoters of the consecration of Spain to the Sacred Heart.
In a clear challenge and a call for “peace and reconciliation” in the Country, Cardinal Osoro said: “Let us remind ourselves in this gathering of what it means to not love people for reasons of beliefs or ideologies and how this can generate hatreds and divisions among neighbours, resulting in the poor suffering the most".
Aurelio Cayón, Provincial Superior of the Iberian Province, represented the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts as one of the concelebrants at the Eucharist.
