On Sunday, 14 February, Felix Kepitan Goran sscc was ordained as a deacon. His parents are originally from Adonara, but Felix was born in Malaysia when his parents worked there.
Bonie Payong, Provincial of Indonesia had decided that the ordination would be in the Diocese of Padang, in which is the parish of St. Damien's. After a five-day retreat made alongside a diocesan student from Padang, the two were ordained in Padang Cathedral by Archbishop Kornelius Sipayung OFM Cap, Archbishop of Medan.
The ordination was very solemn and meaningful. Many people attended the ordination, mostly from Mentawai. Felix was accompanied by members of his sscc family: Father Provincial, Vicar Provincial and the parish priest of San Damiano, Agustinus Swondo.
After the ordination, there was a very short reception, one could even say it was not a proper reception as there were only a few speeches lasting 30 minutes, followed by the closing prayer. Felix will continue his journey to the priesthood at Saint Damien’s Parish in Sibi.
