Priestly ordinations (Indonesia)

After the different stages of formation, six deacons from the Indonesian Province were ordained priests by Bishop Kornelius Sipayung OFM CAP, Bishop of the Archdiocese of Medan, at St. Paul Pulo Brayan Bengkel-Medan Church, on 27 July 2022.

The six deacons are: Fenantius Junaedi, Matias Meru Ujan, Cornelius Paulus Bala Koten, Abel Nelo Blikon, Karolus Kepolok Huar and F. X. Martana.

In the ordination ceremony, Bishop Sipayung was accompanied by Father Pankras Olak Kraeng (Provincial of the Indonesian Province).

The ordination was attended by priests from various places and people from various parishes in Indonesia.

In his homily, Bishop Sipayung conveyed the three main tasks of a priest. The first task is teaching. A priest must have time to study in order to teach. The second task is to sanctify. Priests must have a close and prayerful relationship with God so as to sanctify the people. The third task is to shepherd. To shepherd means to be willing to sacrifice and to know one’s people. In order to recognise their people, priests must find time to visit them. The bishop's main message to the priests can be summarised as study, prayer and visit.

The ordination mass closed with the announcement by the Provincial of the newly ordained priests' assignments. Father Junaedi will go to Batam Oase Centre, Father Matias Meru Ujan to St. Paul Brayan Parish - Archdiocese of Medan, Father Kornelius Paulus Bala Koten to St. Odilia Parish -Citra Raya-Tangerang - Archdiocese of Jakarta, Father Abel Nelo Blikon to St. Damien Parish - Mentawai - Diocese of Padang, Father Karolus Kepolok Huar to SSCC Novitiate, and Fr.
