Provincial Assembly (Iberia)

Following on from the spiritual exercises led by Cristóbal Jiménez SJ, held in El Escorial from 24 to 26 August, the brothers of the Iberian Province remained in El Escorial for their Provincial Assembly from the 28th to the 31st of the same month. The 29th was dedicated to the presentation of a booklet on Ongoing Formation covering the different stages of life in which religious find themselves and to the theme of the Provincial Inspirational report proposed after the visit of the General Government.  This involved remembering the brothers who have preceded us and those who continue to be an inspiration today. The Eucharist at the end of the day was dedicated to those  brothers who had died during the year.

On 30 August, the provincial communication plan was discussed by two professionals, Pia Serra and Tamara Cordero, with dialogue and interventions by the brothers. The final part of the morning focused on the Provincial Chapter. In the afternoon, five personal testimonies were given: Miguel Díaz (his presence in the communities of the elderly), Nacho Moreno (experience of internationality), Nacho Domínguez (experience of the study of spiritual theology), Pablo Bernal (experience of pastoral co-ordination in the SSCC San José School) and Tomás Esquerdo (project of welcome in the community of Martín de los Heros). The day culminated with the Eucharist at which our Brothers Juan de Dios Carretero and Tomás Esquerdo renewed their religious profession. Afterwards, there was a time for a barbecue.

On 31 August, José María Fernández, legal adviser to the Province, addressed the subject of wills, self-guardianship and living wills. Aurelio Cayón, Provincial Superior, then presented some provincial information, such as the preparations for the 5th Provincial Chapter, culminating in the celebration of the Eucharist to mark the various anniversaries of profession and ordination.
