
The Sixth Provincial Chapter of Africa was held August 14 through 20. Sixteen chapter members together with delegate of the sisters in Africa, Madeleine Bolema sscc (“Kabibi”) and Felipe F. Lazcano sscc, of the General Government, were put up “Father Coudrin” Postulant House, Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo). The Province has at this time 29 brothers (without counting the two who in the General Government). There are eight brothers in temporary vows. In the Novitiate (Boane) there are three novices.
The opening Eucharist was presided by Bishop Donatien Bafuisinsoni sj, auxiliary bishop of Kinshasa. Monday, August 15 there was a retreat led by Father Felipe.
The chapter slogan was “Seek the Kingdom of God and his justice” (Mt 6:33). The fundamental themes of the chapters were “the economy and administration” and “community life and mission,.” With a particular stress on working as a team. A new provincial government was elected: Jean Bosco Elumba sscc is the new Provincial.
The following day Sunday, August 21, Corneille Kipulu Kilonga (“Colin”) made his perpetual profession at the 12:30 Mass, in the Parish of St. Francis Xavier, Kinshasa, The new Provincial presided and he was accompanied by a good number of brothers and priest friends. Almost of the sscc sisters from Kinshasa were present at the celebration.
After Mass, the feast continued in the multi-purpose room of the parish. The Secular Branch sscc took on the task of the meal preparation. Music and dancing which can never be missing, completed a festivity of fraternity and thanksgiving to God.
