SSCC in Norway

From 14 - 15 May, Derek and Alberto visited the brothers living in Norway: Gerard Filak (82 years old) and Janusz Fura (64 years old). Both have lived in Norway since 1986 and have served in different communities. Gerard is retired and collaborating with different groups and communities. Janusz is parish priest of St. Magnus parish in Lillestrøm (2016), together with a Nigerian priest, Father Godwin. We also met with Gerhard Schwenzer sscc, bishop emeritus of Oslo who has served in Norway since 1975.

On Saturday 14th, in the parish church of St. Magnus about 40 young people received the sacrament of confirmation from the vicar general of the diocese of Oslo, Monsignor Francis Xavier Huynh Tan Hai, of Vietnamese origin. Most of the young people come from families of Vietnamese, Polish and Nigerian origin. One of the characteristics of the Catholic Church in Norway is that its communities, as well as its clergy, are multicultural. The faithful originating from more than 100 nations regularly participate in the Church. In Norway more than 79% of the population (about 3.800.000 million) belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Only 3% belong to the Catholic Church (160,000).
