SSCC Novitiate bids Farewell to Cerrillos Curacaví, Chile (Brs)

In 1984, the Chilean Province of the Congregation decided to establish the novitiate in the town of Cerrillos in the Commune of Curacaví near Santiago. The Superior General, Pat Bradley sanctioned this house officially as a novitiate.

Since then every year (except 2014), novices in formation were welcomed here. There were four novice masters during these years: Paul Fontaine, Eduardo Pérez-Cotapos, José Vicente Odriozola and Sandro Mancilla.

In 1996 the novitiate of the Chilean Province became an interprovincial novitiate, a project undertaken by the Interprovincial Conference of Latin America (CIAL).  Already before then, novices were welcomed from other countries. Since that year, a common project began to emerge as the Latin America SSCC communities decided on this sign of interdependence in initial formation.

But the formation of the novices was not the only fruit of this presence. The pastoral work carried out over the years has forged a close relationship with the people and families of the sector. Last month, on December 11, 2015, they   prepared a farewell celebration for the Congregation, animated but sad. However, there was also a deeply felt  sense of gratitude for all that God has done in these 32 years of history.
