St. Damien at the Synod (Vatican)

In the first meditation entitled ‘Resurrection: Searching in the Darkness’, given at the Synod Assembly on 30 September in the New Hall of the Synod, Fr Timothy Radcliffe quotes, among others, the witness of St Damien of Molokai. Here is the paragraph:

‘Let's take a look at each of the seekers and see what they can teach the seekers of our time about reaching out.  Mary Magdalene is drawn to a love that is tender. It is down to earth, physical, flesh and blood. She desires to care for the body of her beloved Lord. Surely, she represents all those whose lives are driven by compassion for the wounded of the world. Mother Teresa, sought the body of her Lord in the streets of Calcutta. Saint Damien of Molokai, gave his life to the leprosy patients of Hawaii."
