I was invited to be part of a round table zoom conference: Women's Perspective on Today: the response of civil society: A dialogue.
It was organised by Mr. Massimo Trombin, the CEO of Global Peace Foundation - Brazil. Its civil society, faith based organisation who are front line to save the lives, liberty and dignity of the poor, Dalits, tribals, minorities, Migrants, women, children.
The panelists were women from Brazil, USA, Kenya and I represented India- Asia.
I spoke briefly about the present burning issue in India: A 19 year old Dalit woman - lowest ranked in India's caste based society who was assaulted, raped by four upper caste men.
I also spoke about the ongoing torture, rape of women in India sponsored by present ruling party who are Hindu fundamentalist and how Indian government turned completely a blind eye to the poor Migrants who suffered the hardest hardship during pandemic.
I concluded that the church has a bigger role to save the people and save the democracy because the church, by its calling, stands for the poor, with the poor. Church by going away from the people, from the society goes away from the teaching of Christ.
It’s time the Church has to align with other groups, individuals, organizations in a meaningful way and gel with the people. It has to make a visible and loud stand more than before. I prefer a church that journeys with the struggles and life of the people.
