The Damián de Molokai Foundation and the Esteban Gumucio Spirituality Center have launched a new charitable initiative: the Digital Charity Wreaths, virtual cards that allow a deceased loved one to be remembered at the Sunday Masses of the San Pedro y San Pablo Parish and the SSCC Manquehue School, while at the same time donating a breakfast for a resident of the Casa Padre Esteban.
The Casa Padre Esteban, located in the La Granja district, welcomes more than 80 people daily who come for lunch and shelters more than 20 people experiencing homelessness. Sustaining this work requires the ongoing commitment of those willing to contribute to food, hospitality, and the general running of the house.
“Today we come to invite you because, together, we created something truly beautiful: the virtual Charity Wreaths,” said Verónica Escabini, president of the Damián de Molokai Foundation, who presented the initiative alongside Javier Juanicotena of the Spirituality Center.
Each card includes the mention of the deceased person's name at the Sunday Masses celebrated at the San Pedro y San Pablo Parish and at the SSCC Manquehue School. Beyond this remembrance in prayer, the card represents a concrete contribution: “What makes them special is that, with them, in addition to being able to offer a loved one at Sunday Mass, you are also providing one or more breakfasts for a person sheltered at the Casa Padre Esteban,” explain its promoters in the initiative's presentation video.
In this way, the Charity Wreaths bring together two deeply connected dimensions: prayer for those who have passed away and solidarity with those in need of food, shelter, and companionship.
