The Superior General, Javier Álvarez-Ossorio, and Alberto Toutin, councilor, have finished the canonical visit to the Iberian Province with an assembly with the brothers in Madrid, on December 6.
For almost two months, Javier and Alberto have been visiting the brothers in Spain and Portugal. In total, 94 brothers, 16 communities, 2 novices, 2 postulants, 6 bishops, 4 commissions or consultants (Initial Formation, Colleges, provincial manager and legal adviser), 12 councils or parish groups, 6 Colleges, 3 teams of particular ministries, 3 communities of the Secular Branch, and SSCC sisters from 8 communities.
In the final assembly, the visitors have pointed out some of the strengths of the province, such as the energy to construct the new province, local community life, coordination of the six colleges, youth ministry activities, transparency of the economy, and ongoing formation.
On the other hand, they have also posed some challenges to the province, such as the communion of the entire province as a single "body" capable to discern, a more determined commitment among the poor, the spiritual accompaniment of older brothers, a major deepening of prayer and study, the internal control systems in the decision making, etc.
The Province of Iberia is preparing its third provincial chapter, which will take place in March 2017.
