The Diocese of Getafe (Madrid), is celebrating a jubilee year on the occasion of the centenary of the consecration of Spain to the Heart of Jesus. Festivities are taking place in El Cerro de los Angeles, a famous monastery built on top of a hill which is located at the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. Placed on top of the monastery is a monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
In this video, edited by the Diocese of Getafe, the origins of devotion to the Sacred Heart in Spain are presented. At 4m 50s, Father Mateo Crawley-Boevey sscc is introduced as a forerunner in the promotion of the consecration of families to the Heart of Jesus. He is spoken of as "a great apostle, a great preacher", one whose vision was that "Jesus be at the centre of homes and families." It was Father Mateo who, through his talks throughout Spain, prepared the people for consecration to the Sacred Heart and it was he who preached the Triduum prior to the act consecration, which took place on 30th May 30, 1919.
