The Enlarged General Council comes to an end

On Friday, June 17, we concluded the Enlarged General Council with a presentation on the theme of how to  Prevent Abuse. This was led by René Cabezón, Provincial Superior of the Province of Chile along with Javiera Albornoz, coordinator of “SS.CC. Prevention, Reparation and Communications”.

They began their presentation with Art. 4 of our Constitutions on reparation and with the verses "Walking, Suffering and Learning" from the Cantata of Human Rights by Esteban Gumucio. In addition, they addressed the following points:

- Chronology of the crisis.

- SSCC System of Prevention and Reparation.

- Five steps of the SSCC reparation path.

- The accusations made.

- The progress of the reparation process.

- The inauguration of a Memorial in the SSCC College of Concepción (Chile) for the victims of the Church and the Congregation in the SSCC  Present at the inauguration were some of the victims.

- Decalogue of lessons learned.

The following question was worked on in groups: What practical actions do you see yourself challenged to take in relation to this issue? After this there was time for sharing and some responses from René and Javier.

Finally, the Superior General gave us some information and expressed his thanks:

"These have been intense days of thinking, listening and searching together, in fraternity. It is good for us to see each other and to share. Our reflections are good for the body of the congregation. They are an expression of loving obedience to what God continues to do through us".
